David returned home safely at the end of the war and, within four months, shortly after he turned 21, his father passed away, leaving his mum responsible for the bakery and the younger children.
 
After this tragic event, David decided to start his own path in life, looking for jobs in Birmingham and in London but never forgetting his mother and siblings, who made sure she was well looked after even after she retired.
